US Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Attack in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities
As stated by a high-ranking military official, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Recent Actions
The statement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military presence.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amid Scrutiny
The government has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to suggest a wider geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
