The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
