The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.
All in all, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
