The original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company Unilever prevented the launch for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the business with Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he will independently develop this new product within an individual series highlighting issues the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators and Parent Company

This latest announcement deepens the ongoing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the British consumer goods giant that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed how Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Flavor becoming a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced via social media that he is creating an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its coloration, which match the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism and Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that was first created several years back to support former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Changes plus Future Plans

The founder revealed that he will create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that the company was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years of involvement, mentioning worries that its independence was compromised after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented how "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
