Teacher Killed and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Firefight at School in Nigeria
Armed assailants have fatally shot an educator and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a female high school in north-western Nigeria, according to police.
The gang of attackers breached the public educational institution for female students in the Maga locality within Kebbi State at approximately 04:00 local time on Monday, police confirmed.
The armed individuals "engaged police personnel on duty in a shootout" before scaling the perimeter fence and seizing the students from their dormitory, an official report indicated.
One member of staff was lost their life while safeguarding the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now being treated medically.
Eyewitnesses described a sizeable number of assailants, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who came shooting randomly to cause panic.
Community members told reporters that the attackers afterwards forced a number of girls into nearby bushland.
The authorities announced they had sent "additional police tactical units, alongside military personnel and local protection units" to the area.
