President Trump Invites Families of Attacked National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist public safety in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the government to pause refugee claims and cease providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
