New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

New York police shared video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims were reported.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
