Australia gloveman Alex Carey admitted he believed he had edged the ball when he was given not out on DRS on day one of the 3rd Ashes Test against the English.

After surviving on 72, Carey went on to make a superb 106 to guide the hosts finish on 326-8 at the close in Adelaide.

The Key Moment

The home side were 245-6 when Carey looked to play a cut shot to seamer Josh Tongue.

The England team were convinced they had a wicket, certain they had heard an nick, but umpire Ahsan Raza remained unconvinced.

Following captain Ben Stokes challenged the on-field call, the replay examined by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney displayed a spike although this registered before the ball had passed the bat.

Gaffaney added he believed there was a clearance between bat and ball.

Consequently, Carey was given not out.

"I thought there was a feather or some sort of noise when it passed the bat," stated Carey.

"Being given out would have prompted a review, though not a confident one. There was a definite noise."

Discussion has swirled about 'the Snickometer' during the Ashes contest after a series of inconclusive calls.

England's bowling coach David Saker suggested the touring side may pursue this latest incident to a higher level with match referee Jeff Crowe.

"So far we've let it go, but this might push us to take action," Saker remarked.

"There have been concerns about it for the whole series. It's disappointing that this is a post-play discussion. It is what it is."
