Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
